This is a common call that I receive. What this means is that your refrigerator has a defrost problem. What you should do is look at the back wall of your freezer and see if there is frost on the wall. If there is then for sure you have a defrost issue. If this is the case then you have a defrost thermostat that may have gone bad. If you have a GE refrigerator they have a glass rod heating element that sometimes will fail as well. Most other refrigerators have a rod similar to an element in your oven and they seldom go bad. Other things that can cause this is defrost timer has gotten stuck in cool mode, or the automatic defrost control board has failed. Some simple things you can do is to open back of freezer (from the inside) and use hair dryer to thaw ice in coils. This will give you a short period of time that it will cool the refrigerator till you can have me come out and check into the real issue.
Call me today and I will be there usually today or tomorrow to take care of your refrigerator.
Now if it is warm on both sides then it will be either a freon issue, a compressor issue, or a relay issue. These are all things I can determine for you as well. If you hear a clicking sound but compressor does not start then it is a relay issue.
